Layer And Duo Modes

The YDP164 offers different playing modes to suit all situations. Layer mode will layer 2 sounds together so for example you can have strings and piano together to add extra depth and dimension to your performance. But if you fancy playing a duet then youc an do that too with duo mode. Duo mode splits the piano in to two halves of the same octave range so there is basically 2 middle C's. Two players can then perform sat next to each other at the piano in the correct octave.

IAC and Stereo Optimizer

Performing and practicing on your piano at home can sometimes mean having to keep the volumes turned down or headphones plugged in to avoid affecting other people. The YDP164 includes 2 great features to assist with great sound quality in these situations. When an amplifier is not turned up and being pushed the quality is not at its best, but the IAC (Intelligent Acoustic Control) adjusts the sound of the piano base don the volume of the instrument to ensure the highest quality sound at all levels. If you then want to use headphones the Stereo Optimizer is a feature which gives the impression the sound is emanating from the body of the piano so you feel much more immersed in your playing experience.

Smart Pianist

Smart Pianist is a free app designed by Yamaha that links in with certain pianos in their range. The YDP164 is compatible with the app and it creates a fun and educational system for all levels and all ages. The app has built-in books starting from the absolute basics through to high level classical pieces. The score is displayed on the screen of your compatible tablet/ smart device and follows your playing, improving sight reading and timing skills. Furthermore the the app can analyze your built-in music library and work out what the chords are for your favourite tunes. You can then play along and enjoy performing with your favorite artists!
