Each year, Takamine releases a limited edition guitar that celebrates the culture and beauty of the Gifu prefecture, where Takamine has built guitars since 1962. These beautifully-crafted instruments feature artistic inlay designs that will never again be repeated. For 2018, we are proud to present Gifu-Cho, a guitar with a very special theme. The delicately inlaid butterflies presented here herald the arrival of the Spring season. These butterflies, also known as "Spring Ephemeral", cannot survive in the deep forest. They only thrive for a short time in the hills and meadows between the forest and the villages of Gifu, Japan. During this brief period, they flutter around the violet flowers as if enjoying their relationship with the neighboring human beings.

Construction

The Takamine LTD 2018 sports the NEX body shape, a new found favourite with guitars across the globe. being a smaller scale of the Jumbo body shape this size allows for maximum comfort due to its compact size whilst still keeping a warm and silky tone associated with bigger bodied guitars. For a top wood Takamine have chosen to use Solid Cedar which is know for its warm and vibrant tonal properties. The top wood goes through a process called Antique Whitewash which is finished in a pale white paint, then sanding down to allow the grain within the wood to show through beautifully. Paired with the Top you have Ovangkol back & sides to provide a solid feel and vibrant lone end. Joined to the body you have a African Mahogany mahogany neck shaped to a comfortable profile, topped off with an Ebony fretboard and 42.5 mm bone nut. The fretboard and pickguard are inlayed with the stunning Gifu-Cho design giving this guitar a unique and stunning appearance to match its high quality tone woods.

Pickup & Electronics

The Takamine LTD2018 comes fitted with their very own CTP-3 Preamp system, the first and only on board valve preamp system. Fitted with a 12AU7 dual-triode Valve set to run at low wattage to avoid over heating, you can adjust the variable valve control to achieve anything from bright and brilliant to thick and warm tones with ease. You also have plenty of on board controls such as a cool tube control, master volume, 3-band EQ, mid frequency select and even a notch filter. The pre-amp also comes loaded with a built in tuner to allow for on the go tuning whether you're on stage or out in the countryside.
