The GS Mini - BIG sound, small body

With better volume than the lower end Baby Taylor, the GS Mini still falls into the `travel` guitar category, but with Taylor`s cut-down Grand Symphony shape offering more clarity and richer sound. It also has the capability to be fitted with the Taylor ES-Go Soundhole Pickup - for only an extra £80 or so - so theres quite a lot of versatility to be gained from this model.

Our demo model came with an evenly grained top, with a better colour than the BT1 Baby Taylor. The Solid Spruce on this model adds a brighter quality to the sound, the thin Laminated Sapele body enhancing the well-balanced lows and mids. Comfortable to play, the GS Mini also has more visual appeal than the lower end Baby models, with a larger bridge, more detailed Soundhole Rosette and Binding on the top and back. Other cosmetic appointments include a Tortoiseshell Pickguard and slightly larger chrome Machine Heads.

An obvious choice for many guitarists after portability and versatility, soundwise the Taylor GS Mini matches up to many other guitars at this price level despite its smaller size. The quality of fretwork and Ebony fingerboard make for an extremely satisfying feel, and the overall sound is surprisingly full. The ES-Go Soundhole pickup is very easy to fit - Taylor claim 5 minutes work with a screwdriver - and is a very useful add on if youre looking to gig or do studio work.

In a smart Taylor branded hard/soft gig bag, the GS Mini is the perfect tool for experienced players on the go, for younger players with smaller hands or just for players after something a little different. Well worth a look at!
