A new Cabinet design for Yamaha Clavinovas
The new range of Clavinovas for 2005
Yamaha are constantly improving their digital pianos and the all new Yamaha CLP280 is no exception. The cabinet is based around a traditional upright piano. The stereo sampled piano is based upon Yamahas own AWM sampling technology. Every few years Yamaha introduce the lastest developments into the new range, so digital pianos just get better and better.
Compare a Clavinova to a similar priced traditional piano and the Clavinova wins on sound quality and touch. It has all the standard advantages of a digital piano.
- It doesnt need tuning
- you can play with headphones
- you dont have to worry about central heating
- Its more interesting because of the choice of voices
- You can record and hear yourself play
- Its compact

Digital Pianos suit modern day living.
Digital pianos allow you to play when you want to play. you dont have to worry about disturbing the rest of the household or the neighbours. the more you play the better you get. The betterv you get the more you want to play. And now with the latest sound developments the best sound comes from a Clavinova
What makes the CLP280 special ?
Compare the CLP280 to the CLP230 and youll find a big differance in sound quality, the amplication is twice the power, giving a richer deeper sound . The piano sample is dynamically sampled. On a real piano when you play a note soft it is soft and quiet, when you hit it hard it is loud and bright. This is what makes an acoustic instrument special. A Clavinova is a copy of an acoustic instrument, the closer we can get to the character of the real instrument, the better the Clavinova will sound. Bear in mind that the dynamic stereo samples are taken from a top of the range Yamaha concert grand.
The Yamaha CLP280 has 4 steps of dynamic sampling, greater storage bank of samples and 128 note polyphony over the CLP240, the novice wouldnt really appreciate the difference in Piano tone between the 2 models but the experienced player would. The amplification is significantly improved having seperate amplifiers for bass and treble and 4 speakers instead of 2. The record facility is 16 track as opposed to 2 and you have the full complement of XG voices. this allows you to play midi files on the instrument- great fun !
The Yamaha CLP280 is available in 5 finishes including Polished Ebony and Polished Mahogany. The main difference is the wooden keys, its that little bit extra quality and you can feel it.
The USB to Device facility means that you can save all your songs on a USB Stick, this is a really cool feature
