Woods

As its name states the Pacifica 212VQM (Quilted Maple) makes use of laminated quilted maple top but also Alder as the main body wood. the neck is also maple with a rosewood fingerboard. Alder wood is lightweight with a great resonance but is a more balanced tone brighter than other hardwoods, with a little more emphasis in the upper midrange. Its affordability and availability make it the ideal choice for many guitars as it is great for tone yet robust.

Pickups

Yamaha have strayed from the classic 3 single coils to go for the HSS (Humbucker Single Coil, Single Coil) array. This combination means you can achieve thicker rich tones for rhythm playing with the depth of the hum bucker yet can have a whole caveat of tones available in your arsenal with combinations of the single coils as well. Jazz to heavy metal is no problem for the Pacifica 212 and the coil tap just opens up your capabilities even further.
