The Freestyle 55A along with several other brand new Vic Firth products takes it's inspiration from Freestyle Longboarding where riders can move up and down the board without losing control allowing them to use every inch of their board. This allows them to pull off tricks and stunts that would not be possible on a normal sized board.
The Vic Firth Freestyle 55A allows much more space for your hands to move around the stick allowing for a much more varied feel of playing. you can easily switch from a more front heavy grip to a back heavy grip and still maintain a sweet spot for both areas. the result is a stick which has a much wider dynamic range than what a regular drum stick has.
