The Scarlett coloured metal unibody chassis instantly offers a sense of the Focusrite high build quality. Utilising 2x award winning preamps and capable of up to 6 inputs and 8 outputs with the digital and analogue domain combination, there is no doubt the 6i6 interface will fit in perfect for small studio environments and anywhere where high quality audio and more than the basic 2 inputs are required.

Ins and Outs

Scarlett 6i6 offers up to 6 inputs and 8 outputs via use of analogue and digital sources. The unit itself has 2 TRS combo inputs on the front, both of which can be used for instruments/line/Mic sources and both utilising the award winning mic preamps that Focusrite have become so well known for. Both of these main inputs also offer 48v phantom powering for condenser mics along with a 10db pad to help control signal levels.

When more inputs are required the rear of the Scarlett 6i6 houses more connection options. 2x TRS jack input sockets can be used individually or great for use with stereo instruments such as pianos. Gain control is provided via the Scarlett Mix Control software. There is also MIDI IN/OUT and SPDIF stereo ins/ outs on the rear for connecting digital audio devices. A further 4 line TRS outputs are provided for flexible routing options and connection to studio monitors.

On the front are 2 more sockets and this time they are individual stereo headphone outputs, each with their own volume controls which is great when multiple people wish to monitor the mix, which may include fold-back for the musicians themselves.

iPad, Mac and PC compatibility

The 6i6 is the first of the Scarlett audio interfaces to be iPad compatible. As per usual the unit works via USB2.0 for Mac and PC devices but the addition of iPad compatibility means that the huge array of musical apps available can now be utilised with high quality audio processing. In order to use the 6i6 with an iPad the optional Apple USB Camera Connection kit is required.

Bundled Software

As standard Focusrite include a whole bunch of software for getting the best of the 6i6 interface straight out of the box. The Scarlett Mix Control software is the main software control bundle for the hardware so users can route audio and control gain/volumes to obtain the perfect set up. There is also the world renowned Ableton Live Lite 8 software for recording and song production. To top it all off the Scarlett plug-in suite is included which offers very high quality sound processing in the form of Compression, Gating, EQ and Reverb for tracking and mixing. There is also over 1Gb of sample data from Loopmasters sample content and the Novation Bass Station analogue modelling synth plug-in.
