Yamaha MODX8 Plus - Details

The MODX8 Plus is immediately recognizable with the new all black sleek looking case with standout print where as the more subtle changes include a brand new modulation and pitch bend wheel with rubberized coating and additional weighty feel taken direct from the Montage. It is topped off by an enhanced sample capacity of 1.75Gb matching that of the Montage models.

The MODX8 Plus model has 88 note graded hammer piano touch which feels superb. It offers great dynamic response for the 2 sound engines (AWM2 and FM-X) wiht over 2000 preset performances. The top panel houses the famous Superknob controller able to control 128 parameters at once, smooth sound switching capabilities and a powerful pattern sequencer to put your ideas down and chain together to build an entire song. It is recommended for anyone performing at home, in the studio or for live performance.

AWM2

The AWM2 engine is exclusive to Yamaha synthesizers and offers much more than just sample playback. Each of the 16 AWM2 Parts feature eight programmable synthesizers with 18 different filter types, amplitude, pitch and filter envelope generators, nine LFOs, 3-band EQ and a dedicated dual insert effect with Virtual Circuitry Modeling.

MODX8 plus - FM-X

Everything you love about the iconic DX7 meets the latest Yamaha innovations. FM-X produces classic ‘80s or cutting-edge EDM synthesizer sound with incredible dynamic range, power and fidelity. MODX+ goes well beyond the capabilities of the original DX7 with an 8-operator FM architecture, 128-note polyphony, many filter types and more. All with Motion Control for ever-evolving and changing textures to create sounds no one has ever heard before.

MODX8 plus - SMART MORPH

Smart Morph enables morphing between FM-X sounds. Its sophisticated A.I. algorithm creates an interactive morphing map from up to eight FM-X sounds. You can "play" this map from the touchscreen or use the Super Knob to move between two points. The result is a staggering number of interesting and interactive new sounds.

Sidechain is a popular effect in modern dance music where a pad or other sustain part is "keyed" to the kick drum. When the kick drum plays, it ducks down the sustained part creating a "pumping" rhythmic effect.

Out of the box, MODX+ gives you access to sounds made by our world- class sound designers and artists, including sounds from the MOTIF series as well as the legendary DX7. You'll have a massive sound library at your fingertips.

MODX8 plus - DAW Integration

MODX+ Connect is a convenient tool which lets you transfer data between your computer and the MODX+. Song data created on the MODX+ can be transferred to your computer and the Performance data edited on the MODX+ can be saved as a file (.X7B) on the computer. MODX+ Connect, based on Steinberg's VST3 technology, works as a VST3 plug-in with the Cubase series. The MODX+ Connect also works as the same way as other VST instrument software, allowing you to save the edited settings of the MODX+, or use them for another project. MODX+ Connect also works as an AU plug-in. For AU compatible DAW software, refer to the separate Release Notes. It can also be used as standalone software.

MODX8 plus - SUPER KNOB

The Super Knob is to shaping sound as a conductor is to an orchestra. It directs individual dynamic elements into a single musical expression. Like a conductor, the Super Knob can tell one player to turn up while another turns down. You can change the shape of notes from long to short, bright to dark or move a player from being right next to you to the back of the concert hall.

The Super Knob allows simultaneous control of up to 128 parameters in a single Performance. This means you can control mix functions like volume, pan and effect sends or detailed synth parameters like filters, LFOs and Operators.

That's 128 parameters…SIMULTANEOUSLY!

You can even control the Super Knob with an FC7 foot controller making it easy to manipulate the sound when playing with both hands.

MODX8 plus - MOTION SEQUENCES

Motion Sequences are tempo-synchronized, completely customizable control sequences that can be assigned to virtually any synthesizer parameter and provide incredible new ways of creating sound. Motion Sequences also have dedicated controls on the front panel making it easy to manipulate and change in real-time, providing incredible interactivity and expression.

MODX8 plus - ENVELOPE FOLLOWER and Audio Beat Sync

The Envelope Follower converts audio into a control source for control of virtually any synthesizer parameter. For example, a drum loop could drive effects parameters for a cool rhythm or a vocal recording could control multiple parameters for a "talking" synthesizer. The audio can even be a "live" source through the A/D input.

Audio Beat Sync (ABS) detects the beat of an external device like an electronic drum kit, drum machine or audio player plugged into the A/D input and synchronizes the MODX+ Arpeggiator, Motion Sequencer or Songs to the tempo of the external input.
