Without a doubt a unique experience
What sells the AEX500 is simply it's uniqueness. A nylon strung electro-acoustic is nothing new... But when we got our hands on the AEX500 we were all a bit suprised. This guitar is a little bit mad... but in a good way!
The same size and shape as a typical archtop AEX series yamaha on first inspection this guitar looks no different. Apart of course from the lovely hard maple clear top. (Also available in black) On closer inspection, we in fact have the result of a collision between one of Yamaha's brilliant "C" series classical guitars and the AEX electrics... With a slim almost "strat" shape neck, 20 reasonably large frets and a comfortable 13.75" radius the usual levels of fatigue caused by crossing from an electric guitar to the enormous necks of classical acoustics are removed.
When plugged in, this guitar has a brilliant classical tone and is a joy to play... Long chordal passages are much more comfortable and because of it's electric guitar like qualities, some interesting lead lines can be developed.
