Fender Time Machine Guitars

Step back in time...

Great Scot! Original 1954 Stratocaster? Certainly.. £75,000 sir. Errrr... no thanks!

Scan the internet long enough and you'll see them, original Fender guitars, with some truley inspiring price tags. It's not unknown for an original Fender to break the £100,000 mark.

Frightening but true.

Thankfully we have the Fender Custom shop to offer us our own little taste on what the essentially quite crude originals feel and sound like.

There's no denying that they're special. Each model is personally inspected by a Fender custom shop builder and is painstakingly put together and setup by hand.

Although not exactly production models, the Time Machine series are the largest line of products to come out of the Custom shop, and because of that, they're thought of more as Elite Fender standards but don't let that put you off as each guitar produced is completely unique.

The Time Machine series takes two Fender originals: the Telecaster and the Stratocaster, picks a few of the two model's vintage years and produces three models for each year:

The NOS (new old stock) which is a guitar in perfect condition built from parts and wood of the exact same spec as the originals. As though someone found it in a Fender warehouse untouched.

Closet Classic Imagine going to an antiques faire (or a garage sale if you're from the other side) and opening up a tatty old guitar case to find a 1956 Strat. The finish is a bit checked (cracked through exposure to changes in temperature i.e. sheds or pressure i.e. an aeroplane) But it's otherwise mint.

Relic Essentially worn out. To the uninitiated, it's done for. To the guitarist with a keen eye, keen ear and appreciation for comfort... It's heaven. Fender use the analogy of a worn in pair of pants. We prefer the analogy of an old dog. It's a bit tired, it smells a bit, and it won't fetch a stick but it's the best friend and psychologist you'll ever have. To play a Fender relic is something special.
